Amazon Announces a New Warhammer 40,000 Animated Series

Although Amazon’s Secret Level animated anthology highlighted a bunch of popular games, including Dungeons & Dragons, Mega Man, and even Pac-Man, the series’ best episode was, far and away, “And They Shall Know No Fear,” which plunged viewers into the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000. The short followed a group of Space Marines tasked with destroying a Chaos cult, and it did so with incredible animation and ultra-bloody action as befitting the Warhammer franchise.
If you watched “And They Shall Know No Fear” and found yourself wishing for an entire series like that, well, you’re in luck. Variety recently announced that Amazon is working on a spinoff from “And They Shall Know No Fear” that will be developed by the original short’s director, Dave Wilson, as well as John Orloff (Masters of the Air, Band of Brothers). One of the new series’ producers will be Henry Cavill, who is also working on a live-action Warhammer 40,000 series for Amazon.
No plot details have been announced, but Variety’s article claims that it’ll focus on the Deathwatch, an elite group of Space Marines tasked with defending the Imperium of Man from alien threats. Interestingly, the highly anticipated second season of Astartes is also expected to focus on the Deathwatch, so we’ll have to see if and how the two series complement each other. No release date for Amazon’s series has been announced, but Astartes 2 is slated to land sometime later this year.
