Godzilla Minus Zero’s New Trailer Hints at an Old Enemy

The latest Godzilla movie is the first Japanese production ever filmed for IMAX.

Takashi Yamazaki is pulling out all of the stops for Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to 2023’s acclaimed Godzilla Minus One. First off, the latest Godzilla title is filmed in IMAX, making it the very first Japanese movie to use that format. But more importantly, this latest trailer — in which post-WW2 Japan is still reeling from the Big G’s wrath — teases the one and only King Ghidorah as the movie’s big bad.

If you’re not up on your Godzilla lore, the three-headed King Ghidorah has been Godzilla’s arch-enemy ever since it first appeared in 1964’s Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. True, we don’t actually see Ghidorah in the trailer, but I’m pretty sure those are its gravity beams at the 1:02 mark, and who else makes that sound at the 1:10 mark? Also, the trailer suggests that Godzilla Minus Zero pulls a few plot points from Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, though presumably it won’t feature any aliens from Venus.

I guess we’ll find out for sure, though, when Godzilla Minus Zero arrives in theaters on November 6, 2026.
