“Introit/Prophecy at 1420 MHz” by Boards of Canada

To call Boards of Canada’s upcoming Inferno one of 2026’s most anticipated albums would be a gross understatement. Following last month’s surprise teaser, fans have been clamoring on social media about their expectations for the album. Expectations that surely won’t be lowered by the band’s decision to release the album’s opening songs, “Introit” and “Prophecy at 1420 MHz.”

Accompanied by a video laden with “Photo-Psychic Stimuli” — which mainly takes the form of surreal visuals combining religious and scientific imagery, as well as a heavily vocoderized voice intoning that God is “the ultimate resonance” — “Prophecy at 1420 MHz” is particularly enthralling. The song strikes the perfect balance of ominous and beguiling thanks to the band’s trademark analog synths, snappy beats, and some murky guitar melodies. In other words, if “Prophecy at 1420 MHz” is any indication, then Inferno will likely live up to the hype… and then some.
