“The Sweetness of Honey” by Club 8

There’s a little something for everyone on Club 8’s latest album, the more-than-aptly titled Weeks of Golden Beats. There’s some New Order-underscored synth-pop (“Echoes of Our Time,” “Birthday”), a sprightly acoustic number (“Honestly”), and even some shoegaze shimmer (“Don’t Cry Baby, It’s Only a Film”). And of course, this being Club 8 we’re talking about, the album’s production is burnished to a glossy sheen while Karolina Komstedt’s vocals are as dreamy as ever.

As such, it’s hard to pick one standout song, but I’m going to go with “The Sweetness of Honey,” which blends the duo’s effortless Swedish pop sensibilities with some funk and soul. It’s packed with the sort of eclecticism we’ve come to expect from Komstedt and bandmate Johan Angergård, but no matter how much I hear it, it feels just as fresh and vibrant as ever.
