We Might Finally Get a Movie Adaptation of Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness

Originally published in 1936, At the Mountains of Madness is one of H. P. Lovecraft’s most well-known stories, chronicling the adventures of a fateful Antarctic expedition that discovers horrifying secrets beneath the ice — secrets that completely unravel Earth’s history.

In 2010, Guillermo del Toro announced plans to film At the Mountains of Madness. Unfortunately, his adaptation languished in development hell and was eventually canceled altogether, due in part to Universal Pictures’ reluctance to make an R-rated period-set horror film. To this day, del Toro’s At the Mountains of Madness remains one of the great unmade films in recent history.

But thankfully, Adrián Adamec has decided to take up the challenge, and as seen in this short teaser, he’s definitely on the right track. What’s particularly impressive is that this teaser isn’t even actual footage from Adamec’s film, but rather, footage shot while scouting locations for his film. But if this is what he can do with location footage, then I can’t wait to see what Adamec’s actual take on At the Mountains of Madness will look like.
