“Bad Larry” by Cloakroom

Last Leg of the Human Table, the latest from Indiana’s Cloakroom, clocks in at a breezy 37 minutes. But I’m glad they slow down and decide to meander around a bit on “Bad Larry,” which brings a welcome Western twang — complete with washboard and some Morricone-esque flourishes — to the band’s fuzz-heavy, grunge-inflected shoegaze.

Cloakroom’s music has always had a thoughtful component that belies their fondness for mind-crushing riffs. So this softer, more pensive approach is par for the course, as are the song’s lyrics, which find Doyle Martin admitting that he’s “got no time for a world so hollow/or those who fear tomorrow.”
