Farther From Where We Came

Having just discovered Off The Sky’s music via his Caustic Light EP, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this guy before. Given the various post-rock/ambient/shoegazer forums and mailing lists I’ve frequented over the years, I can’t help but wonder why I haven’t seen Jason Corder’s name mentioned anywhere, or why fans of the stuff aren’t singing his praises… at all. The Caustic Light EP is a gorgeous piece of glitchy, guitar-based ambience, and the bits I’ve heard from his earlier recordings are quite lovely in their own right as well.

Off The Sky’s new album, It Is Impossible To Say Just What I Mean, will be released on Stilll sometime this month. But there’s an exclusive MP3 that serves as a teaser. Title “Farther From Where We Came”, it’s a bit more structured than the Caustic Light EP material, with some actual, tangible beats helping to give shape to the meandering guitar textures and huge washes of sound. And yet, like the EP, it still retains a very intimate, relaxing, and dreamlike sound. Gorgeous stuff.
