Florent Lebrun’s The Lost Tower Short Flies High with Charm

Florent Lebrun’s The Lost Tower doesn’t even try to hide its Studio Ghibli influence. The two-minute short, which depicts a lone pilot flying his seaplane over a perfectly blue ocean before landing at the foot of a mysterious tower, is clearly indebted to Hayao Miyazaki’s Porco Rosso, while Louis Lacoste’s score evokes Joe Hisaishi at his best.

All of which is to say, I want more.

What makes The Lost Tower particularly impressive is that it was created with Blender, the same open source software used to create the Oscar-nominated Flow. It’s pretty cool to live in an age when tools like that are freely available to artists around the world, and in the right hands, capable of creating some pretty amazing and delightful stuff.
