“Hold In My Hands” by Zelienople

Four years have passed since Zelienople’s last album, Hold You Up, but if you’ve ever listened to the trio’s music, then you know they love to take their time. Which explains why their ambient-minded post-rock is so captivating and richly detailed.

For this year’s Everything Is Simple, Zelienople brought in two additional musicians — P.M. Tummala (vibraphone, Fender Rhodes, synths) and Eric Eleazer (Fender Rhodes, synths) — which only further broadens their already expansive sound. Tummala’s vibraphone in particular adds a dreamy, shimmery vibe to “Hold In My Hands,” which clocks in at just over four minutes but feels like it could easily stretch past fourteen. (Which, in this case, would be a good thing.)

The song reminds me of Verve’s earliest material, specifically slow-burning pieces of psychedelia like “Man Called Sun,” as well as South’s criminally unknown self-titled EP. In other words, it’s perfect for introspective late night zone-out sessions and has me excited for Zelienople’s new album when it drops later this month.
