Lincoln’s Lonely Winters

I don’t make it to many concerts these days, but I had a lot of fun last night watching my friend Case and his band Lonely Winters rock Lincoln’s Zoo Bar (a true music institution) just a few short weeks after releasing their debut Tried and True EP.

Case and I have often bonded over a shared love of ’90s college rock, and Lonely Winters’ music definitely hearkens back to that era. “Back to the Start,” in particular, gives me a real Matthew Sweet vibe. The EP’s highlight, however, is “Strong Like Stone,” a haunting ballad inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s The Road that features solid harmonies and haunting pedal steel.

Lonely Winters describe themselves as “raw Americana rock with Midwest soul, delivering stories full of heart and grit” — which is a pretty apt descriptor for their debut’s three songs.
