“Love in Reverse” by Mélia Martin

Given that Mélia Martin is a classically trained flutist who’s currently studying at the Berklee College of Music, you might be tempted to think that “Love in Reverse” is going to be something stodgy or over-produced. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The pleasant melody, the intimate production that sounds like you’re actually inside Martin’s acoustic guitar, the breathy vocals and plaintive lyrics, the slow layering of piano, flute, and synth filigrees — all of these things add up to a heartfelt song that’s rich in emotion and completely lacking in any pretense whatsoever.

To put it another way: I knew within its first five seconds that I was going to love this song, and that feeling hasn’t changed with subsequent listens.
