Lincoln’s weather is looking pretty nice this week, with temperatures reaching the 70s and 80s in the next few days. So naturally, I’m feeling an urge to break out some classic goth like The Sisters of Mercy and The Mission. Or, in the case of Black Angel’s “Luxx,” some modern goth that just so happens to sound like classic goth.
The Los Angeles-by-way-of-Bristol outfit, led by producer Matt Vowles and singer Corey Landis, have the genre down a “T,” from the spectral guitars and sinister groove to Landis’ sepulchral vocals and droning sax. Even if you’re not all that goth yourself, don’t be too surprised if you feel a sudden urge to don the black, light some incense, turn off the lights, and start swaying in the dark.
Black Angel’s latest full-length album was Elektra, released last October.
