Martial Club Defend Kung Fu’s Honor in Shaolin Avengers

Martial Club — the filmmaking trio of Andy Le, Brian Le, and Daniel Mah — rose to fame with 2022’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, where they were choreographed the martial arts sequences and appeared as enemy combatants in one of the film’s craziest fight sequences. But the trio have also made plenty of their own shorts, including some humorous skits about how martial artists perform everyday tasks (like cleaning the house or doing the laundry).

Earlier this week, Martial Club released their most ambitious project yet: Shaolin Avengers. The 25-minute short finds the trio forced to defend their tiny martial arts school — and the honor of kung fu itself — from the dastardly Wolf Fang clan. What ensues is an obvious love letter to martial arts cinema packed with nods and references to classic Shaw Brothers-type filmmaking as well as Tony Jaa’s Muay Thai acrobatics, Donnie Yen’s moves, Jackie Chan’s drunken boxing from Drunken Master II, and Stephen Chow’s silliness.
