“Memory 2: Grow Something” by Nico Paulo
A showcase for the Portuguese/Canadian artist’s rich and versatile voice.
The Portuguese/Canadian singer/songwriter Nico Paulo recorded Interval_o’s five songs shortly after learning she was pregnant with her son Salvador. As such, it’s easy to imagine “Grow Something” as a gift or prayer for her unborn child, something to help ease his transition into the world.
Although “Grow Something” features various guitar loops and filigrees, it — like the rest of Interval_o — is really a showcase for Paulo’s versatile voice. As she sings “May the tears in your eyes grow something/May the fears in your heart disappear,” rich harmonies and wordless sighs create an increasingly lush and comforting backdrop that’s easy to get lost in.
Interval_o is currently available from Forward Music Group.
