Mike Nelson, Crow T. Robot, and Tom Servo Are Bringing Us More MST3K

During the late ’90s, I often spent my Saturdays watching Mike Nelson, Crow T. Robot, and Tom Servo do their best to survive the worst possible movies that Pearl Forrester, the evil mother of the evil Dr. Clayton Forrester, could throw at them. We’re talking B-movie gems like The Deadly Mantis, Terror from the Year 5000, The Giant Spider Invasion, and of course, Space Mutiny. (We shall forever put our faith in Blast Hardcheese.)

Well, those days are coming back… RiffTrax — the post-MST3K endeavor launched by Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett — has announced a partnership with Shout! Studios to produce four new MST3K episodes back on the Satellite of Love. The four movies to be riffed on have not been announced, but a Kickstarter campaign has been launched to fund production of the new episodes, including a recreation of the series’ original sets and props. Not surprisingly, MSTies have annihilated the original $20,000 goal, passing $650,000 even as I wrote this post.

All four episodes will be recorded this spring and summer, and released by the year’s end. What’s more, the first episode will be screened in theaters by Fathom Entertainment, which has screened previous RiffTrax events. I confess, I haven’t kept up on all of RiffTrax’s activity in recent years, but the chance to see Mike Nelson and the bots on the big screen once again? Yes and please.
