“Mystery Girl” by Ivy
Prior to his death in 2020 from COVID complications, Adam Schlesinger recorded several demos with his Ivy bandmates that got filed away at a Rhode Island studio. When the remaining members Dominique Durand and Andy Chase rediscovered the demos, they enlisted several individuals — including producer Bruce Driscoll and multi-instrumentalist Eric Matthews — to bring them to life.
The result is Traces of You, Ivy’s first album since 2011’s All Hours. The album’s ten songs — all of which feature Schlesinger’s playing — are precisely what you want from the band: mature, sophisticated indie-pop highlighted by lush arrangements and Durand’s voice. “Mystery Girl” is one of the clear highlights, a catchy little number that evokes a classic ’60s pop feel with bouncy rhythms, dreamy synth melodies, and Durand’s breezy vocals.
Traces of You is currently available from Bar/None Records.
