“Only Hinting” by Clinic Stars

Following a long line of Michigander space-rockers, shoegazers, and other bliss-out specialists (e.g., Füxa, lovesliescrushing, Mahogany, Windy & Carl), Detroit’s Clinic Stars specialize in crafting hazy music filled with shimmering Cocteaus-y guitar tones and drifting male/female vocals courtesy of its two members: Giovanna Lenski and Christian Molik.

Lenski and Molik have released a couple of EPs to date, but the upcoming Only Hinting is their debut full-length. Like that title suggests, the duo’s atmospheric dream pop is evocative precisely because it feels like it’s barely there, akin to a half-remembered daydream or partially formed memory. And if the title track is any indication, Only Hinting will arguably be their strongest and most poignant work to date.
