“Opening” by Numün

Although they’re based in New York City, Numün’s music is far removed from bustling urban landscapes and crowded city streets. Rather, the trio’s music is languid, rustic, and expansive, filled with homespun ambience that’s part krautrock, part folk music, and part world music, and planted firmly within the “cosmic pastoral” scene.

Case in point, the title track from their upcoming album Opening evokes dawn breaking over fertile fields, sunlight filtering down deep forest paths, and rural communities slowly stirring to life. The trio evokes all of that with a humble, unassuming arrangement of sparse piano notes, synth noodlings, light strings, flutes, and Willa Roberts’ wordless sighings.

Opening will be released on November 20, 2024 by Centripetal Force (US) and WIAIWYA (UK).
