A Perfect Pandemic Cover of DJ Shadow’s “Midnight in a Perfect World”
A stunning musical collaboration that emerged from the COVID lockdown.
“Midnight in a Perfect World” is one of the best tracks on DJ Shadow’s seminal Endtroducing, combining samples of David Axelrod, A Tribe Called Quest, the movie Rollerball, and more to create a richly varied nocturnal soundscape.
During the COVID lockdown, drummer Jake Najor gathered together some of his musician friends to cover “Midnight in a Perfect World.” Their take on the song is basically perfect, from Tim Felten’s keys and Eric Poline’s turntables to Abby Dearden’s haunting-yet-soulful voice.
