“Plastic Love” by Astrophysics

The city pop classic gets a synthwave makeover.

I’ve already written at length concerning my love for Mariya Takeuchi’s “Plastic Love” (i.e., one of the greatest pop songs of all time). So I’m naturally predisposed to enjoy this remix of the “city pop” classic by Brazilian synthwave producer Astrophysics, which replaces the original’s silky-smooth arrangements and funky guitar riffs with pulsing beats and synthesizer arpeggios. But even when given a Blade Runner-ish makeover, Takeuchi’s voice remains as lovely and winsome as ever.
