Portishead Reunites, Performs “Roads” For Palestine Benefit

The haunting performance was for the Together For Palestine event.

Portishead recently reunited to perform for Together For Palestine, a benefit to raise money for relief efforts in the oppressed region. (Other artists involved include Brian Eno, King Krule, Damon Albarn, and James Blake.)

The song they performed — “Roads” from 1994’s Dummy — is one of Portishead’s most somber and heartbreaking numbers. Highlighted by Beth Gibbons’ voice, which has rarely sounded so fragile, and lyrics like “I got nobody on my side/And surely that ain’t right,” it’s a very apropos choice for the occasion.

This isn’t the first time that Portishead has performed for such an event. In 2022, they reunited for a livestream concert to support Ukraine.

Portishead’s most recent release was the 25th anniversary reissue of their 1998 live album, Roseland NYC Live. Outside Portishead, Gibbons released an acclaimed solo album in 2024, Geoff Barrow recently launched his own film company, and Adrian Utley has worked on albums by Marianne Faithfull, Philip Selway, Mark Lanegan, Torres, and Daniel Ash (to name a few).
