Remember, There Is No Antimemetics Division

One of my favorite novels of 2025 is Qntm’s There Is No Antimemetics Division. Set in the fictional universe of the SCP Foundation, the novel follows the exploits of a secret division dedicated to battling antimemes, bizarre entities and phenomena that are fully intent on never being remembered, even to the point of consuming our memories, lives, and reality. The catch, however, is that in order to do their job, the Antimemetics Division often has to forget everything they know about their job in the first place.

Director Andrea Joshua Asnicar, working with co-writer Jenna Cosgrove, uses Qntm’s novel as the inspiration for a series of four short films that follows SCP agent Marion Wheeler as she tries to stop a particularly dangerous antimeme, designated SCP-3125. Although Asnicar’s shorts are hampered by budgetary limitations and some uneven acting, the concept is so good and interesting, and clearly done with so much passion, that I was sucked in. And in the end, that’s all that really matters.

There Is No Antimemetics Division isn’t Asnicar’s only venture into the strange world of the SCP. To date, he’s released eight SCP-inspired films in the last three years, with his most recent work — I Do Not Recognize the Bodies in the Water — released just last month.
