Return to the Office with This Teaser for Severance’s Second Season
Ever since the credits began rolling on the final episode of Severance’s first season, my wife and I have been eagerly awaiting season two — and we’re far from the only ones. Apple’s original series, in which employees of the mysterious Lumon Industries undergo a medical procedure to separate the memories of their personal and work lives, won widespread acclaim for its unique storyline, solid performances, darkly humorous take on office culture, and surreal liminal space-inspired production design.
News of season two has been few and far between, and what little news there has been hasn’t always been the most encouraging. But things seem to have been sorted out, and season two is finally on the schedule. Here’s the official synopsis:
In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.
In addition to all of the returning members of the Lumon family, season two also adds Gwendoline Christie, Bob Balaban, Alia Shawkat, and John Noble to the series’ cast. Severance’s second season will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025.
