“Rev” (Excerpt) by Deaf Center

The Norwegian duo’s latest is an improvisational album celebrating the 15th anniversary of Sonic Pieces.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Deaf Center’s landmark dark ambient album, Pale Ravine. Originally released on Type, the album has been reissued as a two-CD “bonus” edition by Miasmah Recordings. And if that wasn’t enough, Erik Skodvin and Otto Totland have announced a new album, Reverie.

Recorded live in 2024 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Sonic Pieces label, which has released solo albums by Skodvin and Totland alike, Reverie consists of four improvisational pieces that balance Skodvin’s guitar, cello, and electronics with Totland’s piano. This excerpt from the album’s opening track focuses primarily on Totland’s piano, his layered and reverbed notes and melodic fragments evoking Harold Budd’s otherworldly minimalism in its more shadowy forms.

Reverie will be released on May 30, 2025 by Sonic Pieces.
