“Somnalis” by Martin Stürtzer

Listen, if Martin Stürtzer releases a new album of ambient dub techno, then you better believe I’m going to write something about it. By now, the German producer has his art down to a science, and Auralume is ample proof of that. (The album’s all the more impressive for being a live performance.)

Opening track “Somnalis” is basically the genre distilled down to its bare essence, with reverb-laden atmospherics swirling over and through crisp rhythms and emanating bass pulses. As is Stürtzer’s wont, the song’s spacy as all get-out, but it also possesses an intimate and contemplative vibe that encourages you to take a cosmic journey within.
