Sigur Rós

Whee… the latter half of 2005 is shaping up to be one solid release after another. New releases from Denison Witmer (Are You A Dreamer?, due out July 26), Ester Drang (Rocinate), Joy Electric (The Ministry Of Archers, due out August 30), and maybe (hopefully) lovesliescrushing. And now, Iceland’s favorite sons will be releasing their new album on September 12.

The new Sigur Rós album will be titled Takk… (which means “Thanks” in Icelandic), and according to the folks over at the official SigRo website, “it’s the best thing the band has ever released.” More info can be found here.

I’ve heard snippets of a couple tracks via bootlegs, and the new songs are a marked departure from the glacial pace of (), sounding much more uptempo and even poppy in places. Of course, the songs could have completely changed once the band started recording in the studio. But in the past, new songs have typically been honed to perfection through many live performances, the recorded versions just sounding more polished and fleshed out.

On a semi-related note, the band now have a Flickr account where they’ll be posting photos from their current tour.
