“Time (You and I)” by Khruangbin

The new single returns to the “classic” Khruangbin sound with slick guitar licks and silky-smooth rhythms.

Earlier this year, Khruangbin released the excellent Texas Sun EP, which found the trio joining forces with vocalist Leon Bridges and incorporating some country/western twang into their funk. Now they’re set to release a new full-length album titled Mordechai.

According to the band, Mordechai is “a celebration of Houston, the eclectic city that had nurtured them, and a cultural nexus where you can check out country and zydeco, trap rap, or avant-garde opera on any given night.” (More info here.)

The first single, “Time (You and I),” is certainly celebratory in nature. Returning to the “classic” Khruangbin sound, the single is replete with Mark Speer’s too-slick guitar licks, Laura Lee’s airy vocals and silky-smooth bassline, and Donald Johnson, Jr.‘s clockwork-like drumming.

Mordechai will be released on June 26 by Dead Oceans/Night Time Stories.
