A Tribute to Classic Anime Featuring The Transformers’ Arcee

The short is a delightful riff on Gainax’s classic “Daicon IV” short.

I recently discovered 87render, a YouTube-based 3D artist with a fondness for both Transformers and classic anime. Released last year, their “Arcee: Dreams of Daicon” short brings those two together in a delightful riff on the classic “Daicon IV” short that Gainax produced back in 1983, with The Transformers’ Arcee in the role of the “Bunny Girl.”

Like the original “Daicon IV” short, “Arcee: Dreams of Daicon” features plenty of pop culture references, including Macross/Robotech, Back to the Future, and FLCL (to name but a few). And the short also feels like a quasi-sequel to Transformers: The Movie, with Galvatron, Starscream, the Sweeps, Rodimus Prime, and more all making appearances.

Speaking of Starscream, 87render has also released a really great short that features the sniveling Decepticon squaring off against Megatron in a battle for air superiority. Watch it here:

Much like the OtaKing, I love this sort of fan-made animation. It’s clearly a labor of love, but also of incredible quality, rivaling anything you might see from a “professional” studio.
