Japan’s Mono have been the masters of quiet/loud dynamics for over twenty years now, and this recent live performance on KEXP is a perfect showcase for their stirring post-rock.
The band played three songs from their latest album, 2024’s Oath. It’s all amazing stuff, but the highlight for me is Takaakira Goto’s riffing and soloing during “Run On.” It gets more intense as the song progresses until Goto seems fully intent on breaking his Jazzmaster in half.
Mono’s most recent release is Heaven, Vol. 3, a Christmas-themed EP that’s only available on their Bandcamp page.
