Breathe by Erin Fall (Review)

Back in 1992 when Mortal was still in its Lusis days, Jerome and Jyro teamed up with Jerome’s cousins Johannes Fontamillas and Wilson Peralta to form Christian music’s first techno/rave band, Jyradelix. In the years since that ground breaking project, Johannes and Wilson have continued to make cutting-edge techno music under the monikers Psycho-Lizards and Mindbender. Now recording under the name Erin Fall, Johannes and Wilson have released their hardest, most innovative album yet.

In Breathe, the listener gets treated to songs that alternate between the trance-y techno so prevalent on their Mindbender album, classic techno/rave on the outstanding “Land on Venus,” which is remixed at the end, and a few songs which sound much more like Mortal/Fold Zandura than anything these guys have recorded before. During the opening of the album, Erin Fall even gets a bit philosophical with the commentary on life in our fast-paced, high-tech society before kicking into the guitar-heavy “The World We Live In.”

If you would like to check out a techno/industrial album that makes you think, or just really dig the alternative/industrial/techno hybrid of Mortal/Fold Zandura, I’d highly recommend Breathe.
