Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle by Jake Kasdan (2017)
I remember when this film was first announced, and the first promo photos began circulating. It looked utterly ridiculous, the very definition of a sequel that nobody asked for. As it turns out, though, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is far better than it has any right to be. The Rock’s charisma — and smoldering intensity — are in full effect, but he also shows off his humorous side, aided by co-stars Jack Black and Kevin Hart. Plus, Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan gets a chance to struct her action bonafides as Ruby “Killer of Men” Roundhouse. As far as legacy sequels go, this could’ve been so much worse, so kudos to director Jake Kasdan and the cast, who look like they’re clearly have a lot of fun playing up ridiculous video game tropes.
