The Addams Family by Barry Sonnenfeld (1991)
Since my daughter loved Wednesday so much, it seemed only right that I introduce her to this ’90s classic. I use the term “classic” somewhat lightly, though. Although it’s plenty fun, due in large part to the performances of Raúl Juliá, Anjelica Huston, and Christina Ricci as Gomez, Morticia, and Wednesday Addams (respectively), it’s also pretty all over the place, tone-wise. (See: The musical numbers, doses of surrealism, and some of the crazy, MTV-esque camerawork and editing.) In other words, The Addams Family is a film that only could’ve been released in the early ’90s.
