Shoegaze is an inherently British genre. And yet, there are few bands that perform shoegaze as well as Chicago’s Airiel. Frontman Jeremy Wrenn has previously described his band’s music thusly: “It’s loud, it’s pretty, and you can dance to it.” Which is pretty apropos thanks to shimmering guitars aplenty, Wrenn’s heartfelt vocals, and solid pop sensibilities.

But in the case of “In Your Room,” it’s also music you can fall in love to, with such unashamedly sentimental lyrics as “You shine so bright/A light inside my head/I love the thought of staring at you.” It’s the sort of song that you put on a mix for your newfound crush, hoping beyond hope that the band’s dreamy sonics and romantic lyrics will say all of the things that you’re too nervous to say yourself.
