By the time he started working on Police Story, Jackie Chan was already a well-established action star thanks to films like Drunken Master, Project A, and Wheels on Meals. Not one to rest on his laurels, Chan delivered a film for the ages with this massive action comedy about a detective who must clear his name after being accused of murder.

Police Story features some of the biggest and most well-known action setpieces in Chan’s filmography. Be it a downhill car chase through a shantytown, a double-decker bus duel, or the climactic brawl in a shopping mall, there’s never a moment where Chan and his stunt team aren’t risking life and limb for our enjoyment.

Chan himself suffered numerous injuries during the film, including second-degree burns and a dislocated pelvis, but watching him throw himself off ledges and staircases with abandon, it’s a miracle that he didn’t die. And of course, all of those death-defying stunts are combined with bawdy humor and acts of stunning dexterity that make the film all the more legendary.
