“Silent Shout” is precisely how I like my electronic music: sleek, sharp, and with no small hint of menace lurking behind it all. The title track to The Knife’s third studio album begins with a subterranean bass pulse upon which Karin and Olof Dreijer layer beats and gleaming synth arpeggios. Meanwhile, their pitch-shifted vocals stalk the darkness, intoning cryptic lyrics about the specter of aging, the limits of language, bizarre dreams, and shifting identities. Or at least, I think that’s what they’re singing about.

In any case, “Silent Shout” lures you in with the trappings of a club banger, only to reveal itself to be something far more dangerous and far more thrilling.
