It’s easy to imagine The Midnight’s Endless Summer as the soundtrack to a long lost ‘80s cult film, what with all of the Moroder and John Carpenter-inspired synths. And if it is, then it’s easy to imagine “Sunset” as the song that plays over the end credits as our two young lovers finally decide to leave the cruel city for an uncertain-yet-hopeful future.

“They say it’s darkest before the dawn/We’ve been in this town for far too long,” cries out Tim McEwan; “They say it’s darkest before the dawn/We’re moving on, we’re moving on, we’re moving on.” The song’s tale of youthful desperation and rebellion is all the more affecting for its glittering synths and McEwan’s earnest voice, and especially Johannes Jørgensen’s soaring guitar riffs.
