As Epic45, Rob Glover and Ben Holton have made a career out of composing nostalgia-soaked music that evokes ivy-covered villages and hamlets, meandering autumnal countryside walks, and fading childhood memories. Musically, their songs are characterized by soft vocals, intricate guitar melodies, and blurred synths.

Although their music often has a lo-fi charm, 2011’s Weathering found the band embracing a fuller sound that’s put to tremendous use on “The Village Is Asleep.” Even as the duo sings of restlessness, isolation, and the unkindness of time’s passing, their music grows increasingly gorgeous and accented by subtle string and horn arrangements. It all leads up to an extended two-minute denouement that ranks as one of the loveliest bits of music that Glover and Holton have ever committed to tape.
