Watch Seal Cover Talk Talk’s “Life’s What You Make It”

Originally released in 1985 as the first single from The Colour of Spring, “Life’s What You Make It” became one of Talk Talk’s biggest hits even as the band was migrating towards a more experimental and eclectic sound, as heard on Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.

As for Seal, he’s best known for pop hits like “Crazy,” “Kiss From a Rose,” and “Prayer for the Dying.” Talk Talk might therefore seem like a bit of an odd fit, but this performance at Philadelphia’s Unity Concert for America on the 4th of July is fantastic. Of especial note is guitarist Zach Wish, whose playing and tone are masterful and perfectly evoke David Rhodes’s original performance.

Seal and his band are on tour in Europe throughout the rest of July. (And speaking of odd fits, Seal is also a big Alice in Chains fan.)
