Awesome New Robotech Items Announced at San Diego Comic-Con

Plenty of big announcements emerged from this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, including a release date for the once-canceled Coyote vs. Acme (August 28, 2026!) and new details about Project Hail Mary. But for my money, the most exciting reveal was Toynami’s upcoming release of a large transforming Alpha Fighter from Robotech: The New Generation.

YouTube user “klakalak” shot some footage of the toy — er, I mean, collectible — in its SDCC display, and it’s impressively detailed, with all sorts of neat little highlights that are pure otaku catnip. Given its size and detail — at 1/28 scale, this thing is just massive — it’s going to cost a pretty penny: approximately $450 when it’s finally released in April 2026 (assuming, of course, that Trump’s tariffs don’t work their magic).

In addition to the Alpha Fighter, Toynami is releasing a new edition of the Cyclone transformable motorcycle, also from Robotech: The New Generation. It’ll only set you back a “mere” $229.99, though.

Nerdy side note: As I’ve explained elsewhere, the American Robotech series was actually the combination of three unrelated Japanese anime series — Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA — that were edited together into a single, cohesive storyline. Genesis Climber MOSPEADA served as the basis for Robotech: The New Generation, which chronicles the efforts of a few rebels to overthrow the Invid alien race that’s conquered Earth.

You can go down quite the rabbit trail trying to make sense of how all of those series fit together, and that’s even before you take into account Jack McKinney’s Robotech novels, which go even further afield with their own timeline and quasi-mystical elements. But even if you have no interest in that sort of nerdery — and I don’t blame you — there’s no denying that Toynami’s upcoming collectibles would look pretty sweet in any nerd den.
