“Caroline of Brunswick Square” by The Perfect English Weather

The English folk-pop duo return with their first new music in years.

Nearly seven years have passed since The Perfect English Weather — aka, the husband/wife duo of Simon and Wendy Pickles, who also perform in The Popguns — released their last album, 2018’s Don’t You Wanna Feel the Rain?. But last month, the duo announced a new album, Just Beyond the Lights, and released its first single.

“Caroline of Brunswick Square” is as good a song as the Pickles have ever written, a charming and elegant indie-pop gem chock full of jangly guitars, bouncy melodies, and Wendy Pickles’ lovely harmonies as she reminisces about old friends now long gone. If you enjoy Everything but the Girl and Saint Etienne, then this might just be your new favorite song of the year.

Just Beyond the Lights will be released later this spring by Matinée Recordings.
