Dear Robert Smith: Please Release The Cure’s Complete Show on Blu-ray

Originally released in September 1993, The Cure’s Show was a live album recorded during the band’s Wish tour and released as a double CD (except here in the States where Elektra released it as a single CD/EP combo). A remastered version of Show was released earlier this year as a double LP picture disc for Record Store Day, and now, to celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary, another double LP release has been announced for this September.

Like the original 1993 CD release, this remastered vinyl release contains eighteen tracks spanning The Cure’s catalog, including selections from Disintegration, Head on the Door, and Japanese Whispers alongside the Wish material. However, that’s not the full concert.

Back in 1993, Show was also released on VHS, Laserdisc, and CD-i, and these formats contained a five-song encore consisting of “To Wish Impossible Things,” “Primary,” “Boys Don’t Cry,” “Why Can’t I Be You?” and “A Forest” that’s not available anywhere else. A couple of years ago, a YouTube user uploaded an AI-enhanced version of the complete Show concert video and it looked, and sounded, fantastic. (Not surprisingly, both the video and YouTube account are now gone.)

I would love to own a legit copy of Show on Blu-ray that was remastered like the Play Out concert film and the videos for “High” and “Friday I’m in Love.” (Smith had previously promised a DVD release of Show in 2010 around the same time as the Disintegration reissue, but, well, y’know…) And while we’re at it, a release date for Songs of a Lost World would be nice, too.
