“Equinox” by Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus

Update (7/5/2024): The Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus has confirmed on Facebook that The Dream We Carry will be available on Bandcamp, in its entirety, on July 19, 2024.

There’s been some confusion surrounding the release of The Dream We Carry, the latest album from Liverpool’s Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus. The album was released last week, but only on CD and vinyl. The digital version of The Dream We Carry that’s currently available on Bandcamp and streaming services is actually a “preview” EP that features just five of the album’s fourteen songs.

If you peruse the comments on the band’s Facebook page or that of their new label, Nine x Nine Records, you’ll see people asking for clarification about the release, why they can only listen to part of the album, and so on. Nine x Nine Records has since announced that the full album will be released digitally in the future, but hasn’t given a specific date. (Hopefully, it’ll be soon, because the album’s shipping charges for those of us outside the UK can get pretty steep.)

As for the EP’s five songs, they feature the ethereal vocals and haunting instrumentation that we’ve come to expect from the band. “Equinox” is particularly lovely, though, with female vocals swooning over strings and synths in what sounds like the enigmatic Army’s take on downtempo pop. It’s fairly dissimilar to the band’s “traditional” experimental folk sound, but still lovely nonetheless.
