“Eyes Open” by The Mary Onettes and Maja Milner

More than a decade has passed since The Mary Onettes — one of Sweden’s finest indie/alternative exports — have released a full-length album, opting instead for a slew of excellent singles, like this year’s “Tears to an Ocean.” But the band has announced a new album titled Sworn and have dropped a couple of preliminary singles on their Bandcamp page.

On “Eyes Open,” The Mary Onettes are joined by Makthaverskan’s Maja Milner, whose glassy voice is a perfect accompaniment for Philip Ekström’s yearning vocals and the band’s shimmering arrangements. All in all, it bodes really well for the upcoming album, and proves that even after all this time, Ekström et al. still know how to craft evocative, effortless indie rock.

Sworn will be released by Welfare Sounds & Records on November 14, 2025.
