The First Spider-Noir Trailer Swings with Vintage Style

Of all of the various Spider-People populating the Spider-Verse movies, the Nicolas Cage-voiced Spider-Noir was a clear favorite, thanks to Cage’s dramatic performance and the character’s grey-shaded, over-the-top seriousness. Thus, it was no surprise (to me, anyway) when Sony announced plans back in 2023 for a live-action Spider-Noir series.

The first Spider-Noir trailer dropped this week, and the series is clearly playing the noir aspects up to the hilt, utilizing a striking black-and-white aesthetic reminiscent of 2005’s Sin City adaptation. Cage reprises his role as Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator who re-dons his superhero persona in order to solve a particularly difficult case. Cage, of course, looks perfect as the cynical and weathered detective, and he’s joined by Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, and Brendan Gleeson as the New York mob boss Silvermane who has connections to Reilly’s past.

Although Spider-Noir certainly looks promising, I do hope it doesn’t go full noir, but instead, still retains some of the character’s humor as seen in the Spider-Verse movies. We’ll find out for certain when Spider-Noir begins streaming on Amazon Prime Video on May 27, 2026. Interestingly, the series will be available in both black-and-white and color, with the latter version specifically designed to look like a colorized black-and-white film.
