Turnstile have had quite the last twelve months. Their fourth studio album, Never Enough, garnered widespread acclaim and multiple Grammy nominations. They were the first band to ever be nominated in the rock, alternative, and metal categories in the same year, and ultimately took home Grammys for “Best Rock Album” and “Best Metal Performance.”
So what does the Baltimore hardcore outfit do next? Why, take a detour into Madchester and cover The Stone Roses for Like A Version, of course.
Originally released in 1989, “I Wanna Be Adored” is arguably The Stone Roses’ most iconic song — and one of the greatest songs to emerge from the UK in the last forty years. And Turnstile absolutely smashes it, from guitarist Pat McCrory perfectly capturing John Squire’s nimble filigrees to Daniel Fang’s thumping beat to Brendan Yates’ powerful voice. And they even manage to put their own unique spin on the song’s bridge. My only complaint is that Franz Lyons is too low in the mix for such an epic bass line. (RIP, Mani.)
