Netflix Invites You to Play in Monument Valley
Did you know that in-between binging episodes, you could also be playing video games on Netflix? Launched in November 2021 for iOS and Android, Netflix Games’ library has grown to include nearly a hundred games, including Dead Cells, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Hades. More importantly, it also contains games like Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story, Shadow and Bone: Enter the Fold, and Stranger Things: 1984 that were inspired by Netflix’s popular series. The streaming giant recently announced the latest addition to their video game library, and it’s quite a coup.
Described by Ustwo Games as “a surreal exploration through fantastical architecture and impossible geometry,” the Monument Valley series has been widely acclaimed for its lovely visuals, clever Escher-inspired puzzles, and gameplay. The first Monument Valley game, released in 2014, was named by Apple as that year’s “best iPad game” while 2018’s Monument Valley 2 won a Webby Award for “best puzzle game.”
Ustwo recently announced the third Monument Valley game, and based on the above trailer, it looks to follow its predecessors with more enigmatic-yet-calming gameplay and beautifully designed imagery. However, it’ll be a Netflix Games exclusive that’s only available to Netflix subscribers. Monument Valley 3 will be released on December 10, 2024, and to prepare players, Netflix will be adding the first two Monument Valley games to their library on September 19 and October 29, respectively.
