New Subscriber Playlist: “Songs to the Siren” (A 4AD Records Sampler)

Subscribers can listen to a selection of songs from one of the greatest record labels of all time.
Song to the Siren - This Mortal Coil

My latest Spotify playlist for subscribers has been posted. “Songs to the Siren” is a deep dive into some of my favorite songs from 4AD Records’ vast and illustrious catalog. 4AD Records is one of the most important and influential record labels of all time — for me personally as well as the broader indie/alternative music scene.

Accompanying the playlist is the latest episode of my “Playlist Breakdown” podcast, in which I spotlight one of the playlist’s songs and why it’s so special and meaningful. In this latest breakdown, I talk about “Searching” by Pieter Nooten and Michael Brook. “Searching” is the second track from Nooten and Brook’s 1987 collaboration, Sleeps with the Fishes, which is one of my favorite 4AD albums of all time.

Both of these are little bonuses for subscribers who support Opus financially. If you’d like to get access to them (and more), subscribe to Opus for $5/month or $50/year. (Also, if you just want to check it out, you can subscribe for free and get weekend reading recommendations.)
