Originally appearing on 1980’s The Return of the Durutti Column, “Sketch For Summer” is one of The Durutti Column’s most recognizable songs due to its perfect showcase for Vini Reilly’s deft guitar-work. Listening to it now, nearly fifty years later, it still sounds fresh and lively, a clear influence on “nostalgist” acts like Epic45, July Skies, and Piano Magic.

As this live performance from 1983 proves, Reilly was just as capable of pulling off those graceful melodies and flourishes in a concert setting.
