The Synth-Pop Icons Rock Mexico City in Depeche Mode: M’s Trailer

Upon releasing 2023’s excellent Memento Mori, Depeche Mode embarked on a year-long tour of Europe and North America. All in all, the band played 112 shows, three of which were in Mexico City, where the band performed for nearly 200,000 fans. Those performances were captured by director Fernando Frías de la Parra (I’m No Longer Here), with the result being Depeche Mode: M.

More than just a concert film, Depeche Mode: M also explores Depeche Mode’s special connection to Mexico and the country’s traditions concerning death and mortality. Here’s the official synopsis:

Depeche Mode: M is a cinematic journey into the heart of Mexican culture’s relationship with death, framed by the iconic performances of Depeche Mode during their 2023 Memento Mori tour. Conceived and directed by award-winning Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, the film captures the band’s three sold-out shows in Mexico City, attended by over 200,000 fans, blending concert footage with interpretive interstitials and archival material. Depeche Mode: M celebrates the band’s global influence while delving into the profound connection between music, mortality, and Mexican tradition — a sacred meeting point where pain, memory, joy, and dance dissolve into one another, blurring into something profoundly and beautifully human.

Depeche Mode: M had its premier this past June at the Tribeca Film Festival and will open wide in select theaters, including IMAX, on October 28, 2025.
