Watch Pet Shop Boys Perform at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards

The synth-pop duo’s performance celebrated their winning the 2024 Pop Pioneers Award.

To celebrate winning the 2024 Pop Pioneers Award at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, Pet Shop Boys performed a medley of Mott the Hoople’s “All the Young Dudes” followed by their own “West End Girls” (aka, one of the most perfect songs ever written). Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe were joined onstage by members of the Manchester Camerata chamber orchestra as well as dancers, all of whom were decked out in the sort of highly stylized fashion that one’s come to associate with the duo.

On a side note, everyone’s been talking about how Robert Smith’s voice has remained unchanged over the years, which is true, but I think that’s even truer for Tennant’s voice. Despite turning 70(!) this past July, his voice sounds just like it did in 1984, when “West End Girls” was originally released.

Pet Shop Boys released their fifteenth studio album, Nonetheless, this past April, which has spawned five singles, including “Loneliness,” “A New Bohemia,” and most recently, “New London Boy.” As for the “All the Young Dudes”/“West End Girls” medley, it’s now available on Apple Music, Spotify, and other streaming platforms; click here to listen.
